Across the Lake

On the opposite shore
Orange fire bright
Leaves me curious and more

Who is out there this cold night?
Huddling by the flame
What a sight

A fragile frame
The darkness sets to overtake
Ever since it came

And in morning, when I wake
I go to the window only to find
No light across the lake

No embers of any kind
Though I search the sand and each
Pathway’s wind

But no answer is reached
No footsteps found
Where is the stranger from the beach?
